May 30, a beautiful display took place above the St. Lawrence River between Quebec City and Lévis.  One hour of pure happiness for the aviation enthusiast. On my way to Lévis, all I knew of the program was that a demonstration of the “Snowbirds” team and some CF-18 fly bys were planned, starting at 18:30. With my former experience with the “Patrouille de France” at the same place in August 2009, I chose to go to the south bank of the river in order to benefit from views of the Chateau Frontenac in the background, although this position is completely against the light in the afternoon. Moreover, all my friends’ photographer opted for the Dufferin Terrace in Quebec City on the north side of the river; I wanted to make different pictures. Also loving taking challenging pictures, I decided to make my shots from a park located in Lévis and overlooking the river. At 18:30 precise, a Bell CH-146 Griffon from 439 Squadron specialized in search and rescue began the show performing a very nice demonstration of winching on a small patrol boat of Coast Guard. Just at the end of the presentation there was a formation of Lockheed CP-140 “Aurora” and three CF-18 “Hornet”. They made several passes before the maritime patrol aircraft left. Than the three fighters, wich still performed a couple of passes ended with a vertical burst. Then came the “Snowbirds” to appear. Immediately, we noticed that one of the Canadair CT-114 “Tutor” of the team was missing. The aerobatic team did several passes at eight aircraft changing regularly the formation. However, unlike the “Patrouille de France” few years earlier, no solo performances where done. What makes in my mind, a less impressive presentation of the Canadian team as the one of their French colleagues. Nevertheless, the show was a complete success and a nice surprise for me. So I hope this initiative will be repeated on a regular bases, perhaps with one or other additional presentation like a CL-415 for example.
