Rescue of 1500th person with a Sea King of Koksijde Airbase
On 08 december 2009, a Sea King from the 40th Squadron of Koksijde Air Base rescued the 1500th person. The injured fisherman from the fishing boat "ARMEMUIDE 4" on the North Sea was flown to VEURNE hospital.
For this memorable event, the Air Component Commander, Major-General Claude VAN DE VOORDE, handed over a certificate to the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 40th Squadron, Major H. HEYVAERT and the Base Commander Colonel B. HAVERMANS.
Earlier this year on June 28th 2009, our Sea King's were scrambled 2500 times to intervene in rescue actions.
