Taipei's
new military honor shrine has been named a military cemetery. Located
on the sunny side of New Taipei Shulin district, Mount Datong, it
covers 5.6 hectares. The sanctuary was completed in July 1959, in
honor of the soldiers and veterans who died in service. The original
cemetery has been used for over 20 years. Becoming aged, and with old
architectural works and burial chambers in shortage, a new site was
rebuilt in 1982 on the original site . The construction being
completed in March 1984, the new sanctuary was renamed by decree
"New Military Sanctuary of Honor of Taipei" and following an
administrative restructuring, re-established as the "Military
Sanctuary of Honor of the new city of Taipei ".
The official ceremonies are held each spring and autumn, honoring the
Taiwanese soldiers in service or deceased during conflicts or in
commanded service and this in accordance with the law authorizing the
deceased to be 'installed' in the sanctuary by the will of the
surviving family members who need to apply to the New Taipei City
government. |
