The "musée de l'aviation de chasse" was founded in 1985 near the airport of Montélimar(F). About 50 aircrafts and scale models can be seen on an area of 22800m². The aircraft park contains several fighter planes and a few helicopters from different European air forces from 1930 till now. Recently a Mirage 5BA of the Belgian Air Force was restored and is now exhibited between other legends of the European Military Aviation.
The museum collection is growing every year thanks to the good relationship with different civilian or military authorities. Like all the private museums, Montelimar need some help and the amount of visitors is a way to preserve this museum open. Last year 15.000 people visited the museum and that number increases every year.
Parallel to the collection, another association is included in the administrative part, the "
Amicale des Avions Anciens de la Drôme". The main goal of this association is the preservation in flight condition. Currently they have two aircraft: A Piper PA.22 "Tripacer" and a Rockwell OV-10 "Bronco". Regularly both aircrafts are present in the warbirds airshow in France and in Europe.
It's a good place to spend a day when you are in holyday in this sunny region of France.
