The month of May being over now, here is a panorama in pictures of some of the movements, but also a small summary highlighting what we have noticed.
On the civil aviation side, let's note the visit of new airlines such as Flyr from Denmark, Play from Iceland or Air Transat, the Canadian airline that flew in several times with their Airbus A321 NEO.
Icelandair continues to change its paint scheme with a sober blue and white version with a line of different colours on each aircraft located on the leading edge of the vertical fin. The last two months have seen light blue, red, green and finally a strong lemon yellow.
It was also a month with sporadic visits from companies that are quite rare in Brussels such as Danish Air Transport (DAT), Copenhagen Airtaxi, Lumiwings, ETF Airways and Carpatair with an Airbus A319 this time.
Also noteworthy, are the regular visits of the Airbus A321 Cargo (G-NIKO) of Titan Airways, which currently flies for Virgin and operates between London and Brussels.
We also saw a new addition to the SAS fleet, as the Scandinavian airline has recently introduced an Embraer ERJ-190.
Quite astonishing was the visit twice of a Boeing B737 of Air Ukraine while everything is at a standstill in this country at war. It is in fact one of the company's aircraft that is currently leased and flying for Air Baltic.
Another unusual visitor was a Canadian-registered Dash-8 bearing only UN (United Nations) markings.
Air Belgium started in May with commercial cargo flights flying one of the two B747s, the OE-LFD, and performing several rotations Brussels - Chengdu - Brussels.
To finish the overview of civil aviation at Brussels airport, there are of course the regulars who come with special decorations or "retro livery" which are fashionable in several European companies. This is how we were able to immortalize an Airbus Iberia with a new "Puerto Rico" logo, the famous "Tudo Azul" of the Brazilian company or an Airbus A321 of Turkish Airlines with a new livery promoting "Bio Fuel"...

Let's move on to the military aviation highlights of May at Brussels Airport.
Starting with the highlights of the 15^th Wing of the Belgian Air Force which on May 1^th made a historic and probably unique flight to the Russian capital Moscow. Indeed, the CT-04 flew to Sheremetyevo airport located north of Moscow to repatriate Belgian and Dutch diplomats and their families, who were expelled from Russia as were the Russian diplomats from Belgium and the Netherlands the month before.
Then on 11 May, the Airbus A400M CT-07 arrived, the second last one, and to immortalize the arrival of the last one, the CT-08, we will have to wait until the end of 2023.
Regarding the Belgian Defence in general, it is to be noted that the authorities call more and more on rented aircraft, whether for the transport of personnel by means of chartered civilian companies or even for freight transport needs (Boeing B737 cargo). Not to mention business jets from varying horizons; very few of them bearing a Belgian registration, unfortunately.
On the tarmac of the military airport we could see, among others, Boeing B737 of Smartwings (Czech Republic), a Boeing B737 cargo of Bluebird Nordic (Iceland), a Boeing B737 from Aeroitalia bringing back the soldiers of the 1 Wing Heli, who were deployed in the South of France and the most outstanding will be a Boeing B737 Business Jet rented in Lithuania to transport King Philippe I during his official visit to Greece (the ticket price included a return trip...). In the end it is sad to say that the Belgian Air Force colours no longer shine in the four corners of the world, even on a Royal trip. We have to admit that sacrificing the fleet of the 21^st squadron to rent planes of the same type (EMB 135 or 145) is a total aberration and renting a Boeing in cargo version is a deep nonsense, when we know that the Belgian State spent fortunes on the back of taxpayers to acquire a fleet of A400M capable (in principle) of transporting freight at the same level as a Boeing B737! We can legitimately ask ourselves where our Air Force, which was so glorious only a few decades ago, is going...

The month of May saw some rare foreign visitors such as a C-130J of the RCAF (Royal Canadian Armed Forces), an Antonov AN-30 of the Romanian Air Force deployed on Open Skies missions, an Airbus A330 of the French Republic on a defence transport from Tallinn in Estonia, an Airbus A400M of the Luftwaffe and an Airbus A310 of the Spanish Air Force sent to Poland before returning to Melsbroek. All these flights were organized through the European Air Transport Command (EATC) at the request of Belgium.
And finally, month May also saw the usual governmental transports, especially at the end of the month during the EU summit held on 30 and 31 May to discuss the conflict in Ukraine.

Once again a busy month at Brussels Airport, but it's time to take off with Air Pixels...

On Sunday, May 01, 2022, a special flight from the Belgian Air Force had the mission of repatriating

diplomats expelled from Russia in the context of the conflict in Ukraine.

This was also following the Russian flights that came to Brussels to seek diplomats and their families

during the month of April.

So surprising this screenshot of an A400M of the 15th wing approaching Moscow and on final for

Sheremetyevo International Airport.
