The adventure of the most renowned seafront airshow in the United Kingdom started back in 1993. 24 editions ago, the public met this concept for the first time and the success kept on growing resulting in a prestigious 25th edition in 2017.
Once again our team crossed the Channel bound for Southern England to rejoin the seaside resort of Eastbourne, not far from the historical city of Hastings.
Besides the airshow, which stays the key feature of this event, the atmosphere is a real delight and wandering along the festal zone, allows you to see a great deal of interesting things, but most of all to meet Her Majesty's people, always of an unmatched kindness. For the sixth year, SBAP reports on this summery event and as with our first visit in 2012, the welcome of the Media Team was warm-hearted and enthusiastic. What a great pleasure to see all these members again: Annie, Tracey and Matt, and not to forget the new members Cassie and Millie.
On our page, you will find some photographs emphasizing on this event and although they are not representing flying machines, they show the wonderful atmosphere we fell in love with!
But let us move onto the anniversary airshow, which as the previous ones, offered once again a delicious mix of ancient and modern aircraft, solo displays and aerobatic teams. As the show lasts for four days, the programs were, time wise, a little bit different. So we build up our report accordingly, but keeping the 'Red Arrows' as the show starter. The team was awaited during various airshows, flying nine displays over four days... Hats off "Reds"!
Every afternoon, an aerial ballet took to the air with Spitfire's, Hurricane, Mustang, B-17G, Catalina, Büchon, Mig 15 and other Strikemaster. Plumes of smoke were provided by the "raven team", "The Blades", the "Fireflies", the "Breitling Wingwalkers" and an amazing Pitts solo display.

Besides the Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force was represented by the solo-displays of the Chinook and the Typhoon FGR4. An airshow without skydivers is not an airshow, so the British Army "Tigers" took the honours, greatly appreciated by the public.
On the "exotic" side, Belgium was present with "Gizmo" and his F-16AM solo-display. It is with a certain pride that we could witness our colours next to these of our British friends, thanks to some "mails" from our editorial staff bringing the organizers and the headquarters of the Belgian Air Force together. One have to admit, that the F-16 display was a unarguable success, perhaps even more than the Typhoon from 29 (R) Squadron, without offending our British host of course... For that matter, after the Sunday show, numerous spectators having recognized us by our F-16 solo display cap and came to have a chat and congratulate Belgium for the superb display. Which just shows that the well anchored patriotism of our friends from across the Channel, does not prevent them to appreciate the performances of our national demo pilot. The only snag was, although there was an F-16 display booth present, no one was manning it, not in the morning before the show, nor once the show was over. Really too bad, because they had to receive the congratulations instead of us.
The fourth day of the event, the Sunday, was the closing day of this 2017 summery celebration and once the darkness had taken over, the "Fireflies" and the "Twister team" offered a sparkling demonstration drawing delightful arabesques' in the black skies of Eastbourne, to great pleasure of the spectators.
Both demonstration were followed by music, a little bit of rain and a splendid firework display to conclude these four days and this 25th anniversary. One again Airbourne was a big success and we wish the organizers all the best for their upcoming editions... On to the 50 years?... Why not...
Through these few lines, SBAP wishes to thank warmly the organizers for this show in general and the Media Team of Eastbourne Council in particular, for their usual warm welcome, the facilities granted, their kindness, their wonderful smiles on the pictures and their sympathetic autographs in our program.
It is now time to have a look at the pictures of this 25th edition... awaiting those of the 26th...

Many thanks to the Eastbourne Council Media Team for the warm welcome to this fantastic event...
