National holidays are always festive days for the population, but also a military parade in Paris, the city of lights and Brussels, capital city of Europe.
Each year July is dedicated to this holidays, knowing that our good old Belgian nation celebrates just seven days after our French neighbours and those parades, showing the Military and Civilian assets, are always interesting being a showcase on the materials, personal and know-how of the Forces of these two nations. It is of course evident that the aeronautical part of these events captures our attention a little bit more.
You will find a photographic overview of these two National Holidays. Indeed, on July 14, our collaborator Jacques Vincent went to the BA 105 at Evreux where the fighters, the Alpha jet and some transport aircraft were gathered. Let us not forget that the base at Evreux is located in Normandy and is the home base of the 64ème Escadre de Transport (Transport Squadron).
The fighters took off from this base to be part of the flypast overhead the Champs Elysée. It was easier to organise and time the flypast to have all the fighters take off from one base rather than have them to fly in from all over the country.
A week later o the Belgian side we visited the airbase at Beauvechain, home of the 1 Wing, with its Siai Marchettis from the 5th and 9th Squadron, the Agusta A109BA integrated in the 17th Squadron and the new NH-90 TTH flying in the colours of the 18th Squadron. Beauvechain was also for a moment the home base again for the Alpha Jets, who's mission was to smoke the Brussels skies with black, yellow and red.
It was like taking a step back in time to see those Alpha Jets aligned on the apron of this Brabantine base, they left a little over ten years ago to rejoin the milder skies of Cazaux, in south-western France.
This day was dedicated to the departures towards Brussels and some fly-by's overhead after the flypast, Beauvechain being one of the clearing axis after the Place des Palais (Palace Square).
Afterwards the day was concluded by flights of the Agusta, a display of our Red Devils and an the awaited and greatly appreciated BBQ.
So here you have a mix of these two days, Evreux sometimes under a grey sky and some rain showers and Beauvechain under a summery sun where at times a little shadow and a fresh drink were more than welcome.
