It has now become an unescapable event, the airshow of Valenciennes-Prouvy held every year on July 14, on the margin of the French National Holiday and flypast overhead Paris.
Organised by Deprez Organisation, alias Pierrot, this event, although still homey, has really grown in scale throughout the years. The always dynamical staff put everything forward to have an attractive playbill but the only setback was the weather, the only thing one does not have in hand... With light rainshowers during the morning and very cloudy skies during the demonstrations in the afternoon. Anyway, the French Air Force was well represented with the Equipe de Voltige of the Armée de l'Air, the skydiver-team which had to cancel their jump due to the windy conditions and low ceiling, the Cartouche Dorée, the Rafale solo-display, still flown by the sympathetic Cpt Benoit "Tao" Planche and of course the renowned Patrouille de France (PAF). The PAF flew in at Valenciennes after their flypast overhead Paris, this year with 12 Alpha Jets forming a Lorraine cross commemmorating the ending of the Second World War. The Armée de l'Air was also well represented in the static area with a Mirage 2000 D, flown in the very morning and multiple exhibitions to promote the vartious carreer possibilities and maybe initiate some passion to the youngsters.
The Marine Nationale showed off an Embraer 120 Xingu still wearing the special livery "100 ans Marine 1910 - 2010" but still interesting to see.
Besides the Armée de l'Air we also could see some civilian demonstrations like the flight school of Gilles Polome, flying three aircraft Beechcraft Be-77 Skipper or the autogyro ELA Cougar. On the "old flying machines" side we had the North American T-6 Harvard and the always elegant Fouga Magister flown by Pierre Fage.
Finally, as can be seen on the playbill, the French-Belgium friendship was part of this event and two F-16 MLU from the Florennes airbase, in particular from 350 Squadron, did some fly-by's. Noteworthy was the presentation of the Belgian "Red Devils" with only three aircraft as the number 4, Cdt Alain "Pappy" Collard was injured during sporting which prevents him from flying. Despite this modification "Paolo", "Daffy" and "Reggio" flew their routine with mastery and it remains a real joy to hobnob with the sympathetic "Red Devils", pilots or mechanics.
As you came to understand through those few words, the sun was not shining overhead Valenciennes-Prouvy but well deep in the hearts of all the actors of this event.

The SBAP-team would like to thank heartily Mr Pierre Deprez and his staff (Bruno and Philippe for the press) as well as Miss Victoria Derprez, our media-contact for their welcome and facilities granted for our report.

So do not wait any longer and book the date of July 14, 2016, to attend a show organised with passion from the heart. Do also visit their website and, why not, make a donation to perpetuate this annual fair. They really deserve it !
