In 1996, the comic's strip, which was born in Belgium, reached its centenary.
What was called the 7th art was celebrated by the Belgian national airline Sabena, which quite often within the history of those drawn and aquarelled figures, was represented to serve these heroes.
As such, various aircraft of this airline sported renowned characters born in Belgium.
On June 19th, 1996 was held the official presentation of the project on an A340 with his "Smurf", but above all an Avro RJ85 with the renowned reporter "Tintin" and his little canine friend "Snowy".
Sadly, due to litigation between the airline and the company managing the heritage of Hergé, the portrayal of "Tintin & Snowy" disappeared from the project.
So it was that during the summer of 1996, all these characters flew worldwide on six different aircraft types, valorizing this Belgian art.
These drawings were, of course, not gigantic, but the project had the delight to exist, showing that the "Sabeniens" (employees of Sabena) had quite some ideas and could live up over the course of the events.
Maybe, now 22 years ago, some of our readers had the chance to fly with Nero, Willy & Wanda (Suske & Wiske), Marsupilami, Billy & Buddy (Boule & Bill), the Smurfs (Les Schtroumpfs) or the cowboy shooting faster than his shadow, Lucky Luke.
In short all our childhood souvenirs above the clouds…
