Mayday, mayday, mayday… this was certainly the content of a broadcast message during this beautiful day in June 1981. Indeed, Mirage BA22 had to return to the airfield for an emergency landing at Gosselies, the pilot having inadvertently ejected the canopy.
Seeing the photographs and the fresh paint on the aircraft without any squadron markings, it had to be a test flight after a major maintenance job at the SABCA facilities at the airport. More fear than harm for the pilot and the aircraft which rejoined the airfield without further problems under the kindliness of the firefighters.
Do note the BA22 benefits a well-deserved retirement as a gate guard at Florennes airbase.
