This year the 15 Wing Transport and Communication celebrates its 60th anniversary. However, transport units did exist long before the official establishment of the 15 Wing. Through its existence, the 15 Wing was mostly known for its humanitarian missions which were repeatedly reported in the daily papers. The 15 Wing is based at Melsbroek, the military part of the airfield of Brussels National since 1950.

During the 90's, the Air Support Unit of the Gendarmerie (since 2001 known as the Federal Police) joined the installations of the 15 Wing and this year celebrates its 15th anniversary as an independent unit.

60 years are due to be commemorated in style, so the C-130H (CH07)' vertical tail was decorated with the face of an American Indian, basis of the insignia of the 15 Wing and its various squadrons.

The Air Component also decided to invite the public at this event so an open door will be organised on September 14, 2008.

By clicking on the badges below you will find the history of the 15 Wing Transport and Communication and the history of the Federal Police Air Support Unit. Clicking on the poster of the open door will give you all the necessary information regarding this event as well as the list of participants. After the open door this link will provide you with and in depth photographic footage.
